1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Talk to Data ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the Service.
These terms apply to all users, including visitors, registered users, and contributors. Talk to Data reserves the right to update these terms at any time, with notice provided via email or in-app notification.
2. Service Description
Talk to Data is an AI-powered data visualization and analytics platform that allows users to:
- Connect databases and data sources (SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, MongoDB, Google Sheets, CSV, Shopify, Stripe)
- Query data using natural language (no SQL required)
- Generate charts, dashboards, and automated reports
- Schedule automations and share insights with teams
Read-Only Access
Talk to Data executes only SELECT queries on your databases. We never write, modify, or delete your data. All connections operate in read-only mode by design.
3. Account Registration
To use the Service, you must create an account by providing accurate and complete information. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. Accounts created with false information may be terminated without notice.
4. Privacy & Data
Data We Collect
- Account information: Name, email address, and password (hashed)
- Usage data: Queries made, charts created, features used
- Connection metadata: Database types and connection names (not credentials in plaintext)
- Query results: Temporarily cached to render charts and dashboards
How We Use Your Data
- To provide and improve the Service
- To generate AI responses to your natural language queries
- To send product updates and important notices (opt-out available)
- To comply with legal obligations
What We Never Do
We never sell, rent, or share your personal data or query results with third parties for advertising purposes. Your database contents are never used to train AI models.
Data Retention
Query results are retained only as long as necessary to serve your requests. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from Account Settings.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Access data you are not authorized to view
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or extract AI model weights
- Conduct automated attacks or excessive API requests
- Upload malicious code or attempt to compromise the platform
- Violate any applicable local, national, or international laws
Violation of these rules may result in immediate account suspension.
6. Data Security
Our core data promise: We securely query your data in real time using read-only connections. Your data is never stored, copied, shared, or modified by Talk to Data — at any time, for any reason.
How We Access Your Data
Talk to Data connects to your database using the credentials you provide and executes only SELECT (read-only) queries. Query results are streamed directly to your browser to render charts and tables. We do not persist, cache, copy, or retain any rows from your database on our servers.
Security Measures
Talk to Data employs industry-standard security measures including:
- Encryption of data in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256)
- Database credentials stored using secure encryption, never in plaintext
- Read-only database connections enforced at the application level
- Regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Role-based access controls within team workspaces
- No third-party access to your database credentials or query results
What We Never Do
- We never store rows or records from your database
- We never copy or replicate your data to our servers
- We never share your data with third parties
- We never use your data to train AI models
- We never modify, insert, update, or delete your data
Despite these measures, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security and are not liable for unauthorized access resulting from your own security failures.
7. Intellectual Property
The Talk to Data platform, including its software, design, logos, and content, is owned by Talk to Data and protected by intellectual property laws.
You retain full ownership of your data. By using the Service, you grant Talk to Data a limited license to process your data solely to provide the Service to you.
8. Limitation of Liability
Talk to Data is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the Service in the last 3 months
- We are not responsible for the accuracy of AI-generated query results — always verify critical business decisions
9. Termination
You may cancel your account at any time. Talk to Data may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your data will be deleted within 30 days per our data retention policy.
